Large libraries and OneDrives (over 5,000 items)
How the app reads big libraries, why the first minutes show "Reading … items", and how to split very large migrations.
What to expect
SharePoint's list view threshold limits some queries to 5,000 items. The app avoids those queries: it browses folders directly and reads big libraries 2,000 items at a time. Nothing needs to be indexed or changed at the source.
Before copying, a task reads the whole list of items it has to copy. In a library with 100,000+ items that takes several minutes. The Tasks list shows Reading Documents… 48,000 items so far and then comparing with the destination…. That is normal – it is not stuck.
Make it faster
- Copy selected folders instead of the whole library when you can.
- Split a very large library or OneDrive into several tasks, one per top-level folder. Up to 10 tasks can run at a time (the Run … at a time number on the Tasks page).
- Limit Version history to the versions you need.
- For later runs use Copy if newer (incremental): unchanged files are only compared, not copied.
