Map users and groups (CSV import)

Map accounts and groups whose names differ at the destination, by hand or with a CSV file.

When you need mappings

Authors, permissions and people columns are matched by e-mail automatically. Add a mapping when an account or group has a different name at the destination, for example CONTOSO\jsmith → john.smith@contoso.com, or when people have left.

Map in the app

  1. In the copy wizard, click Mappings.
  2. Drag a user or group from the source list onto a Source slot, and from the destination list onto a Destination slot, or type the names.
  3. Set Unresolved users or groups to an account that receives everything without a match, for example a migration account.

Import a CSV file

Create a file with two columns, Source,Destination:

Source,Destination
CONTOSO\jsmith,john.smith@contoso.com
CONTOSO\Finance Team,Finance Members
old.user@contoso.com,archive@contoso.com

Use login names, e-mail addresses or group names. Import it with the import button in the Mappings dialog; export creates the same format.
